Where ArcPanel comes from

ArcPanel and HestiaCP

ArcPanel is a free, open-source control panel for Linux web servers. It started as a hard fork of HestiaCP 1.10.5, which itself grew out of VestaCP, and it stands on the work of their contributors.

Thanks to HestiaCP and VestaCP

The commands that run a hosting server, the plain-text account data and the service stack of ArcPanel come from years of work by the HestiaCP and VestaCP contributors. ArcPanel is an independent project, not affiliated with either of them.

What stays

  • One v-* shell command for every operation; the web interface, the API and the agents all run these commands.
  • Account data in plain-text files that you can read and back up.
  • The service stack: NGINX and Apache, PHP-FPM, Exim and Dovecot, BIND, MariaDB and PostgreSQL.
  • Security fixes from HestiaCP, ported by hand where they apply.

What ArcPanel adds

  • Resellers with their own customers and plans, inside limits the server owner sets.
  • Node.js apps, app processes for long-running app servers, and a curated Docker catalog that runs as the hosting user.
  • A port registry, so every listening port has an owner.
  • A rebuilt web interface, REST API v2, the arc command line tool and agent skills.

Moving a HestiaCP server

An existing HestiaCP server cannot be upgraded in place to ArcPanel. Install ArcPanel on a fresh Debian or Ubuntu server and move the accounts to it, or ask us for a paid migration from HestiaCP.

Questions

Is ArcPanel under the same license as HestiaCP?

ArcPanel is under GPL-3.0-or-later, as the GPL of HestiaCP requires for a fork. The source is public on GitHub.

Do my HestiaCP scripts work on ArcPanel?

Commands keep the v-* form, but ArcPanel lives under /usr/local/arcpanel and some commands changed since the fork. Review scripts against the ArcPanel documentation before you run them.

Is ArcPanel endorsed by the HestiaCP project?

No. ArcPanel is an independent project, not affiliated with HestiaCP or VestaCP.
